Dallas Urby, nestled in Dallas’s evolving Design District, represents Concrete Amsterdam’s latest collaboration with Urby to reinvent urban living. The two 27?story towers, linked by a verdant communal pool garden, offer 750 apartments alongside cafés, retail, and an array of shared spaces.
The Studio Behind the Vision
Concrete Amsterdam, founded in 1997 and based in Amsterdam’s historic canal district, brings a multidisciplinary approach to Dallas Urby. Their philosophy—“form follows life”—prioritizes human connection over mere aesthetics. For Urby, they’ve handled both architecture and interiors, crafting each space to foster community while maintaining a coherent architectural language across towers and podium.
Adapting to Context
Situated in a former warehouse area now thriving with galleries and showrooms, Dallas Urby responds to its low?rise surroundings by stepping one tower back from the street and rotating the other to present a narrow face. A one?story brick and glass podium breaks into smaller volumes, reflecting the Design District’s industrial past while keeping the pedestrian experience intimate. Prefabricated stucco panels, deep window recesses, and playful balcony projections animate the towers’ façades.
Crafted Living Spaces
Inside, apartments range from studios (S) to two?bedroom layouts (L), all designed for spatial efficiency and comfort. Units here are slightly larger than earlier Urby locations, featuring walk?in closets, terrazzo kitchen counters, and natural oak cabinetry. Sliding partitions and oversized windows further extend sightlines, making compact footprints feel generous and light-filled—a hallmark of Urby’s adaptable floor plates.
Shared Sanctuaries
Communal life unfolds across multiple curated settings: a ribbed?wood lobby with a bespoke water?filling fountain; a wood?clad library with leather booths and illuminated shelves; a second?floor gym with neon accents, yoga and weights zones; and, between the towers, Bas Smets’s organic pool garden. This hidden courtyard, complete with fire pits, BBQ stations, and a mural by Emeline Alé Chaoul, offers residents a calm retreat from urban bustle.
