Located along one of the busiest arterial corridors in Jaipur, Magnus introduces a contemporary commercial landmark within a district dominated by older developments. Designed by Sanjay Puri Architects, the project responds carefully to the climatic conditions and architectural heritage of Rajasthan while establishing a bold modern identity for the emerging commercial zone. The building acts as the first major new development in the neighborhood, setting a precedent for future urban transformation.
Contextual Urban Presence
Positioned along Tonk Road, the building navigates a dense urban context with a design that balances visibility and privacy. The planning strategy places service areas and the circulation core along the southern edge, allowing the remaining floor plates to remain highly adaptable for tenants. This approach creates flexible office spaces capable of accommodating a wide range of workplace layouts while maximizing spatial efficiency.
Smaller office units occupy the lower levels to encourage accessibility and interaction with the surrounding commercial fabric, while the upper floors accommodate larger workspaces. This hierarchical spatial arrangement allows the building to support different scales of business activity while maintaining a cohesive architectural identity.
Dynamic Facade and Spatial Experience
The western facade facing the main road is shaped through a distinctive architectural gesture. The structure inclines forward and backward, creating two vertical volumes with opposing angles. These shifting planes generate sheltered outdoor decks on every floor, providing occupants with shaded terraces that overlook the busy street below.
This dynamic massing not only defines the building’s visual identity but also enhances privacy between neighboring terraces. The resulting spatial experience balances openness with separation, allowing outdoor workspaces while maintaining comfort within a dense urban setting.
Jaali-Inspired Environmental Design
To address Jaipur’s intense climate, the building incorporates perforated facade screens inspired by the traditional stone jaali screens found throughout Rajasthan’s historic architecture. These contemporary reinterpretations are fabricated using lightweight foam concrete composed largely of recycled materials.
Beyond referencing regional craftsmanship, the screens serve important environmental functions. They provide thermal insulation, reduce direct solar exposure, and filter daylight into interior spaces. The layered envelope also introduces depth to the facade while maintaining visual permeability.
Green Buffer and Sustainable Strategies
Between the perforated outer screen and the glazed facade, a continuous three-foot planter zone runs around the building’s perimeter. This planted buffer acts as a natural noise barrier from the surrounding traffic while introducing greenery into the workplace environment.
Sustainability extends throughout the project. The structure uses fly ash bricks combined with an RCC frame, significantly reducing embodied carbon. Water recycling systems, rainwater harvesting, and rooftop solar panels further enhance environmental performance. Through these integrated strategies, Sanjay Puri Architects deliver a contemporary office building that is both climate-responsive and rooted in the architectural traditions of Jaipur.
