Fashions change and trends adapt, and both you and your home can feel left behind. Trying to keep your house up to date can seem like a tremendous task and, sometimes, an impossible feat. However, there are many simple ways to modernize your home without high costs and high maintenance. It’s time to put those Pinterest boards to good use.

Swap Out Small Appliances

By updating your microwave, kettle, toaster or coffee machine, you can transform your entire kitchen. Stainless steel is always stylish and will rarely fall out of favor; it is also easy to clean and compliments many textures, styles and colors. It may seem costly to replace your appliances, but many electrical stores hold sales so you can cut the cost. Good-quality appliances will also last for years to come.

Improve Your Color Scheme

Loud, bright colors may seem fun; yet, they date extremely quickly. They are also troublesome to pair with furniture and ornaments. Neutral colors are always a safe choice, such as creams, browns, or even muted hues of purple, pink and blues. By having a neutral backdrop, your decorative objects become center stage. You can then adjust your tastes more easily, without offending the color of your walls.

Establish Better Lighting

Good lighting is crucial to any room’s ambience. It can also lift the mood of the room and elevate it to new heights, and many modernist table lamps make sure to utilize good lighting coupled with intriguing and innovative design. By updating your light fixtures, you can change the mood of an entire room.

Hang Modern Art

Contemporary art is usually colorful with thought-provoking subject matters. You can juxtapose against neutral colors or traditional architecture, creating a daring combination of old and new. Hang a solo piece of artwork or create a cluster; the choice is yours.

Reorganize Your Bookshelf

Traditions show that we should stack our books vertically, from left to right and in alphabetical order. Now, many homeowners are breaking such long-lasting habits. Instead of arranging from A to Z, some are color coding their novels and storing them horizontally. To keep your bookshelves exciting, you could have one shelf vertical, and the next two horizontal or vice versa.

Update Door and Drawer Handles

Handles are massively overlooked, and they can date your kitchen or bathroom considerably. There are numerous finishes to choose from, however, they need to match with the rest of the room. If your kitchen is sleek and holsters a lot of chrome, then match with chrome handles. As door or drawer handles can be relatively cheap, you could always purchase one or two and try them before updating the entire room.

Landscape Your Yard

It’s all well and good updating the inside of your home, however, leaving your front or back yard unattended will greatly impact your house curb appeal. If you work hard and have limited time for gardening, make sure to research low maintenance plants and opt for shrubs which can look after themselves. You could also hire a landscape architect to design your yard, or hire a gardener to ensure your land never desolates.
