Stuv sP20-in: A Pellet Fireplace for Modern Interiors

Belgian heating manufacturer Stuv is bringing automated pellet heating into the architectural fireplace with the sP20-in, its first pellet insert. Announced in September 2026, the model combines a recessed installation with a visible flame and radiant warmth. For residential interiors, its appeal lies in how it accommodates the practical demands of heating while keeping the wall composition visually restrained.

A Fireplace That Belongs to the Wall

The wall-integrated design conceals the loading hatch and ash drawer, with no visible grille interrupting the surround. Customisable finishes allow the insert to work with different interior schemes, while standard surrounds or a floor-to-ceiling extension offer two distinct ways to frame the fire. The latter can give the fireplace a stronger vertical presence within a room.

This approach makes the surrounding architecture part of the composition. Designers can treat the fireplace as a compact focal point or extend its framing into a taller feature. Either way, the visual emphasis stays on the fire opening, with routine operating components kept out of sight when closed.

Shaping the Flame and the Acoustic Experience

At the centre of the insert is a patented flower burner, designed to produce a soft, continuous flame. A second patented feature extends the combustion chamber’s sightline into the door, giving the fire a broader visual presence. These details address the experience of watching a fire as much as the practical task of heating a room.

Sound is another consideration. The sP20-in uses natural convection and an upward pellet feed system intended to reduce the noise associated with falling pellets and vibration. The design targets quiet operation, a relevant quality in living spaces used for reading, conversation or television. An optional ducted convection system allows heat to be distributed to additional rooms.

Automated Heating with Everyday Access

The insert supports programming and mobile app control, allowing users to schedule heating and adjust it remotely. Fuel is loaded from the front through an integrated hatch that, according to the manufacturer, stays cool to the touch. This keeps a frequently used function accessible within the otherwise concealed installation.

Automated ash removal and a large ash drawer are intended to reduce the frequency of manual emptying. The compatible Pellet Twin Set offers a coordinated container for handling fuel. Stuv reports 92% efficiency and fine particle emissions of 12 mg/Nm3; these are manufacturer-stated performance figures, rather than an independent assessment of the installed appliance.

A Renovation Option for Existing Fireplaces

The sP20-in is positioned for renovation, including projects replacing the company’s established s30-in wood-burning model. Moving to pellets introduces automated fuel delivery and scheduled heating while retaining a fireplace as the room’s gathering point. Suitability still depends on the existing recess and flue, which require an installer’s compatibility check.

For architects, the useful proposition is the combination of concealed everyday functions and a clearly framed flame. Stuv extends its pellet range with a format suited to integrated interiors and fireplace upgrades. The September 2026 announcement does not specify pricing or a market-by-market availability schedule.
