Sutton Tower Wins 2025 BLT Built Design Award

In a striking affirmation of its design excellence, Sutton Tower—the 850-foot residential landmark on Manhattan’s East Side—has been honored with the BLT Built Design Award 2025 in the category of “Architectural Design: Skyscraper.” Designed by Thomas Juul-Hansen for JVP Development and Gamma Real Estate, the tower has also emerged as one of the top-selling new developments in New York City this year, surpassing $150 million in sales.

Architectural Innovation with Timeless Elegance

Marking Thomas Juul-Hansen’s first skyscraper, Sutton Tower reinterprets classic New York architecture with a modern sensibility. Rising 850 feet above the East River, its Bavarian limestone façade extends from base to crown—a rarity in contemporary construction. The composition bridges tradition and innovation: the lower portion integrates with the historic Sutton Place streetscape, while the upper levels embrace glass and light, culminating in a champagne-colored crown that glows against the skyline.

A Tower Crafted Inside and Out

Each of the tower’s 120 corner residences embodies craftsmanship and refinement. Interiors feature custom wainscoting, wide-plank oak floors, and expansive windows framing panoramic views of the East River and Midtown. Bathrooms are adorned with Bianco Dolomiti marble and Waterworks fixtures, while kitchens showcase Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances set within Italian cabinetry. This attention to materiality extends the architectural language of Juul-Hansen’s exterior into the private domain of every home.

The Sutton Club: Wellness and Social Spaces

Within the building, over 22,000 square feet of amenity spaces offer residents an atmosphere of calm luxury. The Sutton Club spans five levels, including a skylit lounge, dining room with chef’s kitchen, screening room, and library. Wellness facilities include a 50-foot indoor pool, infrared saunas, a spa suite, and a fitness center with boxing and movement studios. Through partnerships with Blade and UOVO: Art, Fashion, Wine, residents enjoy curated privileges that extend the building’s luxury lifestyle beyond its walls.

Recognition for Design and Market Success

The BLT Built Design Awards celebrate global excellence in architecture and interiors, rewarding projects that advance creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability. Sutton Tower’s triumph in the “Skyscraper” category underscores its dual success—as both a commercial achievement and a work of architectural art. For Thomas Juul-Hansen, the accolade affirms his vision of bridging New York’s architectural past and future, crafting a structure that feels human, sculptural, and enduring.

With more than $150 million in sales, Sutton Tower stands not only as a luxury residence but also as a benchmark for design integrity in the vertical city. Rising where Billionaires’ Row meets the water’s edge, it captures the timeless allure of Manhattan through thoughtful form and lasting detail.
