Harmonizing with the Landscape
One of the most striking features of the Češča Vas Pool Complex is how it harmonizes with the existing environment. Located next to a recently renovated velodrome, the design team at Enota made a conscious effort to avoid disrupting the spatial harmony of the area. The pool complex is strategically positioned on an inclined terrain, making use of the natural topography to minimize visual impact. The spatial design employs partially buried levels to create distinct, amphitheater-like areas. This approach not only separates different functions within the complex but also enhances the user experience by providing varied perspectives and seating options. The entrance hall is elevated from the traffic surfaces, while the lowest pool area aligns with the western edge of the site. This clever use of space reduces the building’s facade, improving energy efficiency and lowering construction costs.
Floating Roof Design
A defining architectural element of the Češča Vas Pool Complex is its low, floating roof. This unique feature allows the surrounding landscape to flow into the pool area, creating a sense of openness and connection with nature. The roof houses all the non-water-related functions of the complex, ensuring a taller ceiling height above the pool areas and a more intimate atmosphere at the reception and changing rooms. The structural design of the roof, supported by wall beams concealed within partition walls, allows for large spans with minimal vertical supports. This results in an elegant, airy space where the roof appears to hover above the pool surface, accentuated by perimeter lighting and wide views of the outdoors.
Natural Materials and Minimalist Aesthetics
In keeping with its commitment to blending with the natural environment, the Češča Vas Pool Complex features simple, restrained materials. The facade of the floating roof is clad in natural, unvarnished timber boards that will age gracefully over time, further integrating the building with the surrounding forest. The amphitheater-like spaces are constructed from local concrete with various surface finishes, creating a homogenous yet textured appearance. Inside, the underside of the roof is painted in a warm, inviting hue, providing a cozy shelter for pool users while acting as a subtle invitation for those outside to enter and explore.
